Gaiety and Regency Buildings, Outdoor Pools and Medical Building Demolition:

Demolition started on Wednesday 1st December.

A rough outline schedule was:
First 3 weeks until Christmas - Internal contents stripping/decontaminating where needed.

After Christmas - Heavy Machinery moved onto site

Demolition was expected to last about 12-14 weeks.

However, things never go to plan do they?! Demolition was delayed after discovering bats in the Gaiety Theatre that by law have to be protected. 12 weeks turned into nearly a year of work on the site. Here is the demolition diary, with photos from regular intervals following demolition:

The BBC ran a story on the web of the closure of the camp, which can be found here, and they were kind enough to include us, along with our collegues at the Barry Island Reunion, in the related links box!
